Health Commission
Stephen Wright is a public health advocate with the Access, Harm Reduction, Overdose Prevention and Education (AHOPE), a Boston Public Health Commission harm reduction and needle exchange program providing a range of service to active injection drug users. Stephen joined us for an impromptu street-side interview at what City officials call Recovery Lane and the community and the press call Methadone Mile—a stretch of Massachusetts Avenue where methadone clinics brush up against an open air drug market, where some people go to get high and some to get sober. During our interview in front of a fast-food establishment, two emergency vehicles came to respond to what Stephen told us was a probable overdose in the bathroom, a common occurrence there.
