Maia Szalavitz

Maia Szalavitz is a reporter and author who focuses on science, public policy and addiction treatment. She is co-author of “Born for Love” and “The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog,” both with Dr. Bruce D. Perry, as well as “Recovery Options: The Complete Guide,” co-authored with Dr. Joseph Volpicelli, who also appears in this film. Maia’s book, “Help at Any Cost” is the first book-length exposé of the “tough love” business that dominates addiction treatment. Her newest book is “Unbroken Brain: A Revolutionary New Way of Understanding Addiction,” which combines her personal story with a distillation of more than 25 years of science and research. Maia also writes for TIME.com, VICE, the New York Times, Scientific American Mind, Elle, Psychology Today and Marie Claire among others.
